CNN —A Russian oil refinery in the southern Krasnodar region was impacted by a suspected Ukrainian drone attack on Saturday, according to local officials. Meanwhile in Ukraine, four thermal energy plants were “severely damaged” after Russian attacks overnight, according to a statement from DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy company. DTEK said that its thermal power plants have been attacked more than 170 times since the beginning of the war. A video surfaced online showing the head of the Belarusian KGB security service alleging the two medical facilities were housing soldiers. Videos shared online showed medical personnel hurrying to move patients and equipment to ambulances that were awaiting to receive them.

According to a statement published by Ukraine's energy ministry on Telegram, one power line to the plant was disrupted late on Friday, while the last, 750 kW, line was broken at 2:31 a.m. (0031 GMT) on Saturday. "This is the eighth blackout which occurred at the (Zaporizhzhia plant) and could have led to nuclear catastrophe," the statement said. The ministry said that after losing grid connection the plant turned on 20 backup generators to supply its own electricity needs.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian attacks in Ukraine wounded at least 14 civilians over the past day, officials said Saturday, as the president of the European Union's executive arm returned to the Ukrainian capital to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Overall, 26 cities and settlements in the region came under attack over the past day, he said. He said that attacks in the region came from artillery, mortars, drones, warplanes and tanks. Officials in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-biggest city, said the local power grid was damaged in a Russian air strike and that outages were possible. A Moscow-installed official in part of the Zaporizhzhia region controlled by Russia since soon after last year's invasion blamed the strikes on Ukrainian forces. He also reported seven drone attacks on nearby villages and Russian artillery fire on settlements near the front line.

KYIV, Oct 5 (Reuters) - Russia carried out new drone attacks on Ukraine overnight and killed two people in shelling of the southern city of Kherson on Thursday morning, Ukrainian officials said. Nine of the drones that were destroyed were shot down over the Kirovohrad region, regional governor Andriy Raikovych said. The Kherson region governor, Oleksandr Prokudin, gave few details of the shelling of Kherson but said a man and a woman had been killed, and another man had been wounded. A 64-year-old woman was also wounded in morning shelling of the southern town of Nikopol in the central region of Dnipropetrovsk, regional governor Serhiy Lysak said. Although Moscow denies deliberately targeting civilians, many have been killed in attacks that have hit residential areas as well as energy, defence, port, grain and other facilities.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania have agreed on a plan they hope will help expedite Ukrainian grain exports, officials said Tuesday, with needy countries beyond Europe potentially benefitting from speedier procedures. The move seeks to facilitate the transit of Ukrainian exports through Polish territory, the statement said, without providing further details. While the stated goal is to hasten Ukrainian grain exports, the agreement may also help defuse tensions over grain prices between Ukraine and Poland a time when some international support for Kyiv's efforts to throw back Russia's invasion may be fraying. That has left more expensive overland routes through Europe as the main path for Ukraine’s exports. Sealed freight has helped combat that problem, and sending Ukrainian grain straight to the Lithuanian port may also be an answer.

Oct 3 (Reuters) - Ukraine destroyed 29 of 31 drones launched by Russia and one cruise missile, its air force said on Tuesday, most of them targeting the regions of Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk. The waves of overnight attacks lasted more than three hours, the southern command of Ukraine's forces had said earlier. Falling debris in the southeastern city of Dnipro caused a fire at a private firm that was quickly doused, said Serhiy Lysak, governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region. Sixteen drones were destroyed over the southern region of Mykolaiv, its governor, Vitaliy Kim, said. KYIV, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Ukraine's air defence systems shot down 16 out of around 30 drones that Russia launched on Ukraine's territory overnight, Ukrainian Air Forces said on Sunday. It said on Telegram messaging app that drones were launched from the southern, southeastern and northern directions. Authorities said the central Ukrainian Cherkasy region was under the attack. "At night, the enemy massively attacked our Cherkasy region with attack drones. The Ukrainian presidential office said in a statement that civilian infrastructure and warehouses were also damaged in the southern Mykolaiv region and eastern Dnipropetrovsk region.
